Mayor Welcomes Coca-Cola as a Partner

in the City’s 2013 Commemoration

Mayor William Bell and the City of Birmingham are pleased to announce that Birmingham Coca-Cola Bottling Company and the Coca-Cola system will support the 2013 Civil Rights Commemorative year.

 “Having Coca-Cola as a supporter and sponsor is just an added bonus to our year-long commemoration. Coca-Cola has always supported the city of Birmingham and our efforts to improve this community and I look forward to our continued relationship,” said Mayor Bell.

“As we reflect on the history of extraordinary social change in this place that has been our home for over 111 years, Coca-Cola is privileged to be a partner with the City of Birmingham in the 2013 Civil Rights Commemoration,” said Claude Nielsen, CEO of Coca-Cola Bottling Company United. “We will be the presenting sponsor of the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute’s inspirational 2013 Exhibit: ‘Marching On’, which celebrates the role of school children in the Movement. And, as we optimistically consider Birmingham’s future and the many opportunities that lie ahead, we will continue to invest in Birmingham City Schools Foundation’s College 101 Program and other educational programs.”

The events which Coca-Cola will sponsor will add to the city’s efforts to make the 2013 Civil Rights Commemoration a successful and memorable time for the City of Birmingham and all those involved,” said City of Birmingham Chief of Staff, Chuck Faush.

The civil rights movement is one of the most defining events in American history; the City of Birmingham is working to provide a strong example of Americans fighting for the ideals of justice and equality.
