Coca-Cola UNITED recently had the amazing opportunity to support the Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama at their 2019 G.I.R.L. Leadership Summit. G.I.R.L. stands for Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, and Leader. This annual event is a one-of-a-kind leadership conference that brings together Girl Scouts, women in leadership positions, corporations, and organizations from across the state of Alabama. It’s a full day packed with inspiring mentorship from the state’s most powerful women, diverse educational experiences, and invaluable growth opportunities.
We are so grateful for the opportunity to support this amazing event, and this amazing organization. For the 625 girls and volunteers there, Dasani water was the most popular choice—after all, it was 97 degrees outside!
The G.I.R.L. Leadership Summit was launched last year in 2018, and is a one-day event for girl scouts (juniors and above) to be inspired, motivated, and encouraged to live their best lives and reach all their goals. By engaging with mentors in the fields of STEM, arts, civic engagement, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship, they learn to lead like a G.I.R.L.
At Samford University here in Birmingham, the girls heard from keynote speakers Miss Alabama Tiara Pennington and astronaut Jan Davis. They joined together in a drum circle, sang camp songs, and made s’mores in celebration of National S’mores Day. The older girls in attendance did some “speed mentoring” with impressive female leaders from a variety of fields.
About Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama
This organization is 2.5 million strong—more than 1.7 million girls and 750,000 adults who believe in the power of every single G.I.R.L. It began more than 100 years ago, when Juliette Gordon “Daisy” Low organized the very first girl scout troop in Savannah, GA on March 12, 1912. Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama’s mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
On my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law
The Girl Scout Law
I will do my best to be
Honest and fair,
Friendly and helpful,
Considerate and caring,
Courageous and strong, and
Responsible for what I say and do,
And to
Respect myself and others,
Respect authority,
Use resources wisely
Make the world a better place, and
Be a sister to every Girl Scout.
