Spartanburg & Bi-Lo Recycles!

Coca-Cola’s Recycling Education Vehicle (REV) will introduce a new initiative in Spartanburg County by the Spartanburg Citizens for Recycling group to promote recycling excellence and reduce the amount of solid waste being thrown into the landfill. Recycling education stations staffed by recycling ambassadors from Spartanburg Citizens for Recycling will reward residents who recycle at selected convenience centers. The recycling education stations will also provide recycling instructions and information on the local impact of recycling on the environment and local economy. Please visit our websites for a complete schedule.

Spartanburg city residents also have an opportunity to be rewarded for using the curbside recycling system. Since March of this year, 12 Spartanburg City residents who have a “Give it Back” sticker on their new recycling roll carts have won a $50 Bi-Lo gift card for recycling properly at the curb. Through the I-Recycle and Win partnership with the City of Spartanburg, Coca-Cola of Spartanburg, local plastics recycler NURRC and BI-LO, the Prize Patrol Vehicle searches for winners on recycling collection days, the first and third Mondays of each Month.

The plastic beverage bottles (soft drink and water bottles, for example) that are collected through the City and County recycling programs are recycled into food-grade plastic that can be used to manufacture new bottles at NUURC in Spartanburg. More information about this unique recycling “closed loop” will be available at the REV and the convenience center events.
