Birmingham Education Foundation Game Night

On September 26, the Birmingham Education Foundation hosted its 5th Annual Game Night, awarding $17,000 in scholarship money to more than 30 Birmingham City School seniors. Students from a wide variety of schools joined together to compete on teams with executives from Regions, UAB, Engel Realty, C-Spire, SlateXP, Birmingham Athletic Partnership, American’s First Federal Credit Union, The Edit with MDL, Oakworth, Jones Walker, Christian & Smalls, and other community leaders.

In past years, the Birmingham Education Foundation has awarded more than $20,000 in scholarships since the beginning of Family Game Night. This year, the event looked a lot different—previously held on a replica of Family Feud’s stage, this year the event was held at Top Golf. This allowed more students to participate, and thus, allowed more students to win scholarship money. The environment was relaxed and engaging, and encouraged relationship building through community and competition.

Golfers of all ages and all experience levels came together to invest in Birmingham’s students—even some who had never golfed before! The event raised more money than it ever has before, including enough to guarantee each student $250 even if they didn’t win.

The first runner-up, Jocelyn May from Jackson-Olin High School, said she loved learning how to play golf, and is excited for Ed’s different field trips this upcoming year. The winner was Cameron Calvin from Huffman High School, with $5,000 in scholarship money. Every student had a great time networking with other students and industry professionals.
